Nasuni takes aim to kill off your ROBOadmin
Nasuni has fulfilled its promise so as to add unified storage to its existing NAS cloud storage product. The tech is managed from a central site and branch offices not need an admin.
Nasuni’s cloud storage gateway appliance was originally only for file storage, and is derived with local capacity for faster data access by the remote office/branch office (ROBO) users.
Block-access data accounts for as much as twenty per cent of ROBO data consistent with Nasuni, hence the recent appliance generation. Nasuni reckons it is the only cloud storage gateway or appliance supplier providing unified storage. This removes the desire for every other storage in ROBO sites, simplifying their IT infrastructure.
Data written to the applying is automatically uploaded to the cloud using replication, providing data backup and rancid-site storage. Anything uploaded from one ROBO site quickly becomes available to all of the other ROBOs within the organisation’s network through sync’ing. Nasuni also says that data written to its appliance is protected by backup and offsite storage, secured with encryption, and managed centrally from one location, obviating the desire for storage management within the ROBO sites. The off-site facility also suggests that disaster recovery is supplied.
Cloud service providers are selected by Nasuni and it offers Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for access reliability.
To enable this additional functionality Nasuni has beefed up its appliance hardware and is adding better support arrangements besides. The primary-generation appliance had 1U enclosure wrapped around one processor, 16GB of DRAM, four 7.2K disk drives, 3 to 6TB of local storage cache, and support for as much as 300 users.
The second-gen box is 2U in height and has two processors inside it, 32GB of RAM, 26 10K disk drives, 6 to 12TB of local cache and supports 3 times as many users because the first gen box. It also has two 10Gb Ethernet ports in preference to its predecessor’s pair of 1Gb ports.
Support is automatic, with Nasuni accessing the application remotely often times the buyer agrees, and antivirus software in integrated and handled by Nasuni. We’ve local ROBO storage and cloud gateway appliances covering file and block access, and remote ROBOadmin and Nasuni support taking care of the appliances from afar. Nasuni hopes it has got a winning box and repair here and customers will use its ROBO storage on-ramp to the cloud. ®
