JAPANESE ENTERTAINMENT FIRM Sony has announced the arriving of its cloud storage service Sony Playmemories Online within the UK, following its launch at CES in January.

Unlike Dropbox and Google Drive, Sony Playmemories Online offers 5GB of free cloud storage solely for stashing media files including photos and HD videos, as opposed to emails and documents. One stored, you may access the files “at any time, on any device”, be it a computer, Mac or Playstation 3 console.

Sony Playmemories is additionally available in mobile app form it’s compatible with Android and IOS phones and tablets, but Sony has yet to announce whether this can even be coming to Blackberry and Windows Phone handsets. But the company is promising that the service will soon be compatible with Bravia TVs and digital photo frames, with a provisional launch date set for this Spring.

In a bid to outdo the contest, Sony also will launch a brand new photo editing suite for the Playstation 3 to be used along with Playmemories Online.
